We are always delighted when customers send us photos of projects done using our stencils and we like to share them with our readers so they can see different ideas and perspectives. Today, we are featuring the work of Kimberly Manning Aker of KMACreate. Kimberly designs 1890's-1950's interiors. She sent us photos from two recent projects.
Kimberly was working on an Art Deco interior for a 1920's house in San Francisco. She found some wonderful deco pieces, but when it came to drapes, she couldn't find something authentically deco that didn't look 1980's, so she decided to create her own using our Art Deco stencils. Stencils are not just for walls!
She used DE290 Border from our Art Deco range. She mixed a touch of textile paint medium with a product called Modge Podge and her favourite metallic paints from Modern Masters. She stencilled the pattern in an old muted gold and platinum along a piece of gorgeous silk taffeta. Then the taffeta was handed over to her drapery maker who sewed the full drapes up. She was thrilled with the results as she likes adding one of a kind, custom touches to her schemes.
Based on the success of that project, she stencilled something similar for her next project. This time she used DE277, also from our Art Deco range. This is one of my favourite deco stencils because it is so perfectly Art Deco to me.
Just this bit of detail on the drapes adds an extra element of design to the overall scheme. Using the right paint, stencils can be used on just about any surface and stencilling fabric is wonderful to do. Neither design overwhelms the rooms they are in. They just compliment all the other pieces Kimberly has pulled together.

Rachel.
Ps. Sorry, from Helen. However revisiting this post has inspired me to stencil some more fabric.
