This framed mirror from IKEA is cheap, pre-painted and has a smooth, wide border which offers scope for stencilled decoration. The following examples employed our range of Furniture Painting stencils, they are designed to complement smaller projects, many have coordinating elements of corners, borders and motifs.
This stencil is called F5 Punched Classic. It reminds me of brogue shoes or punched tin work. I used one of the two cornerpieces linked by a border.
This frame looked pretty with a pale blue, stencilled border and cornerpiece from F8 Gothic, but then I overdid it by adding an all over repeat from the same pack.
This project would have been more successful if I had made a contrast of colour between border and repeat pattern. However a swift scrub with a pan scourer removed the decoration and allowed me to start again.
The F6 Rope stencil offers a choice of a smooth or a knotted corner section. I have used this one on many projects so far.
It has a matching all over repeat of rope, a little like a fishnet stencil.
The F23 Ribbon stencil consists of a corner and a length of ribbon.
Next, I shall use the various versatile elements of F11 Adam stencil with a similar colour to the Pantone colour Radiant Orchid.
I decorated some storage boxes from IKEA last week with this design, F11Adam is named after the architect and designer Robert Adam, it is perfect for adding classical detail onto painted furniture... and picture frames.
