Signed, sealed, delivered

Yaaaay, my copies of my book Stencil It arrived from the publisher's warehouse.

Books ordered from us have a stencil voucher tucked into the pages as a thank you to our customers.  It allows discount on a future Stencil Library purchase.

Stencil It features twenty chapters each one based around a particular stencil design and the designs are given in the book.

Fifteen of the twenty are ready to use card stock stencils and the other five are design templates.   All other stencils featured in the book are available for sale and very soon we will have special 'Stencil It' pages on our web sites to make this easy for you.  Until then.... email me.

I think Stencil It appears in the USA next week. The USA version is published by St Martin's Press.

'Stencil It' The Out Takes part 2. The Geese Stencil

If you visit  mydeco.com blog you can watch me decorate this wall with a geese stencil from the new book Stencil It. 

The stencilling starts on the wall above baseboard continues over both curtains then continues to the ceiling.  This is something neither wallpaper or stickers can do and makes a striking yet subtle feature.

The geese stencil is one of fifteen laminated card stock stencils that are bound into the pages of the book. It is ready to use.

In the Stencil It book I show you how to make a striking repeating design from the geese but it can also be used as a free form stencil. Here are the projects that did not make the pages of the final publication.

An illustration shows a free form stenciled geese pattern. The scale has been increased for extra drama. Instruction is given on how to change the scale of the designs and there is an option to buy the stencils ready made.

Glitter glaze can add extra sparkle.

Over the moon.  Geese fly in stenciled formation across ceiling, walls and silk lampshade.

A tribute to Hilda Ogden.  Hilda's iconic flying ducks stenciled onto textured paper, cut around then pasted to the wall.

Stencil It. The out takes. Part 1. Damask Stencil.

'Stencil It' should be in the shops later this month and I am looking forward to receiving my author copies.  

This is one of the projects that did not make the final edit of the book. It shows a matt painted wall with  a damask pattern stencilled onto it. I used acrylic gloss varnish and a stencil brush to apply the pattern. 

The stencil does appear in the Stencil It book but not with these particular projects. The publishers rejected some very good work because we had made more than was needed (Book 2 perhaps ?)

This denim jacket was decorated with the damask stencil from Stencil It.  Student Ashleigh Tate used silver fabric paint then embellished the stencilling with Swarovski Crystal.

Another student Harriet Armstrong made these two cushions.  She stencilled the damask pattern with iridescent paint onto velvet. The stencil to create all of these projects is given in the Stencil It book . There are fourteen other laminated card stencils bound amongst it's pages. Mylar film versions of the stencils can be ordered from The Stencil Library. Over the next couple of weeks I will show you some more of the stencil projects that did not reach the final pages. We hope that you like the projects that were included in Stencil It even more than these...but we all have to wait until publication to see those.

Pretty stencil give away

I have another set of used stencils to give to the first person to leave a published comment on this post.

This trio would cost over sixty pounds when new.   These stencils have only been used once each and that was to stencil paper for a magazine's 'how to stencil' project.  They could make a very pretty room decoration.

Free stencils are back.

I had to suspend the giveaway of my used stencils for a while but now I'm back with more stencils to offer.

Please note that there is only one of each stencil or set.  When they have been claimed I will have no more of the same stencils.  However all the stencils came from The Stencil Library, so if you miss the free stencil you will still be able to buy one. 

The stencils are not new they have been used by me.  I will publish a photograph and tell you of faults on the stencil if I know of any.

You will need to pay for the postage.  I can now take payment by PayPal through this blog so you no longer have to give me your payment card details.

My post and pack charges for the free stencils have been standardised and I had to make a small increase to offset the Paypal charges.  Sorry. However, if there are things that you want from our Stencil Library web site then I can include them in the same postal tube for no extra postage.   You will find stencil brushes, paints and brand new, clean stencils at stencil-library.com You would need to email me with your shopping list.  Postal charges for my used giveaway stencils are as follows UK 1st class post £4.50. The shoe stencil has only been used once and that was for the photo above with the picture frame and cushion in it.  The face stencil has had heavier wear but is in a good state with no broken bridges. I used it in the bathroom photo.  It is a repeating pattern with two overlays and printed repeating marks.  The Stencilled Home book is not part of the package it is there to give you an idea of scale.

Another used stencil giveaway

This weeks used stencil giveaway is a romantic little trio.  Two lace designs and a bough of blossom with birds.  The usual rules apply to the giveaway and are at the end of this post.  The first of the stencils is JA 114 Bird and Blossom seen below on the mirror and dresser top.

and on this cushion.

The stencil has been well used but all the bridges are intact and one can get several more uses from it.  The first of the lace stencils is VN121 Vintage Lace repeat   

It is shown on the wall and the bed linen in this feature for Homestyle Magazine by Andrea Maflin...

and on our shop counter.  The stencil is grubby but has lots of life left in it.  The other of the lace stencils is OTT20 stencilled in the next two pictures by Katrin Cargill.

Giveaway border stencil

I was undecided whether to give my copy of this wide border stencil away.

I want to paint it in hot colours onto clashing colour backgrounds but never seem to get the time.  I was going to combine it with the new hand stencil in an Indian themed room set....but I didn't.  So, the only use this stencil has had so far was to be the tool for my certification project for the International Decorative Artisans's League (IDAL) I am standing in front of it.

To get my CSA qualification I had to recreate the stencilled scheme in my living room onto paper, wood and fabric and send it anonymously to an examination board in the USA.   This is how the border looks in my home.

Free Stencils

Here is another couple of lovely stencils that I have finished using and will now gladly pass to someone else.  Firstly there is CH15 

 

I have used it to create this project for one of my stencil classes. The subject was 'stencilling with iridescent powder'  The stencil is 33 inches high, a good size for wall panels, cabinet doors, smallish roller blinds and wall canvases. The border is not part of the design, however it's also from The Stencil Library and the code is IN18 It is part of the India and China Collection.  I stencilled a portion of the panel last week to decorate two photo albums.

I'll show you the result soon.

The second stencil has had little use but I have not cleaned it, therefore it looks a little tatty.

It decorated this corner cupboard and possibly these mirrored window shutters.

There is enough life left in it to do two more similar sized projects.

Another pair of free stencils

This design has been featured many times by many artists on this blog.

I am giving away my used copy of the LTL4 Dandelion stencil in both the standard and small size. They are from our 'Larger Than Life' collection

The set that I am offering has been used to stencil the pink and blue banner above.

and this roller blind.  So you can see that it has not been used a great deal but I have lost the single parachute motif from the smaller set.  I must have lost it some time ago because it does not appear in my projects.

The larger parachute is still there, it has been cut from the base of the stencil and is featured in the photograph.

You can be quite arty with this set.  The stems have been designed to shorten or increase the length easily.

To get a 3D effect like the one in this picture this you will need to make a mask from paper or stencil film.  Stencil one dandelion clock then protect it with a mask cut to the same shape.  Excuse the crude line on the picture but it is to help you see where the mask ends.

Once the second dandelion head is stencilled the mask is removed and this should be the result.

To make chunks of the head appear to be missing use a similar procedure with smaller masks.

Free stencil of the week

This week I am offering my 'dreams script' stencil.

It was only used once to create this room set.

There is damage to one of the O's.

 
X marks the offending spot. You would need to re align the O with a perfect one from somewhere else on the stencil.

To get my used copy of this stencil it's the usual thing... just be the first to comment on this post and be prepared to pay the postage. UK postage and packing costs four UK Pounds, Europe is seven and the rest of the world is twelve. The stencil brush and paint are not part of the give away. They are there in the picture to give scale but you can buy them if wished. Just let me know if you need accessories when I contact you for your delivery address. The gold paint is suitable for walls and fabric and the brush is the large (6) size.

Originally this stencil was made from the 'In Your Own Words' collection.  You could have your own poetry reproduced!  This range is popular for signage as well as decorative text around the home or work place.  After choosing the font style and size of the letters, you then type out what you want to say. Our web site will calculate the cost for you.

I have hung onto this stencil for years with the intention of making either a velvet carpet or a canvas floor cloth with it.   I would surround the script with stencils from the Ottoman Collection.  I know it would look fab but I have so many other things to do and no room for another floor covering right now.
