Slater's Showtime Fun Fair is in Hexham this week. Drawn in by the lights I bought myself a hot cocoa at the burger van, phoned home to say I'd be late and tarried a while enjoying the sparkle, colour, sound and smells of the travelling fair.
Slaters, established in 1891 is now in it's fifth generation. I chatted to Derek Charles Slater about fairground art past and present.
These days he mainly works with spray paint and creates the artwork for all his own rides and for other clients. Derek's family fun fair hails from Greenlaw in the Scottish borders and is available for hire. If you're near Hexham tonight, go. Take the kids , the camera, a pocket full of pound coins (all rides just £1) and enjoy an old style fun fair in a field by the river.
Delightful photos, Helen

Thank you Sabina and Derek for your kind comments about my photographs. Also Marjorie, I loved your memories concerning Slater's Funfairs in the 60's and Rue and the Rockets.
