Last week I was in Japan with a fabulous group of decorative painters from all over the world.
We were attending SALON 2013 Tokyo and had nine days of the most wonderful hospitality from our Japanese hosts. I will tell you more about it once I have edited my nine hundred photographs and checked the names of people and places that I encountered. I would have done that on return but have had a lousy cold and done nothing since returning..except sniff and cough.
All participating artists at Salon paint a panel to be displayed at the venue. The work was outstanding, I was a little nervous because it was the first Salon that I had contributed to, stencil artists are rare at Salon and I was the only visitor from the UK. Here are two of the team from Faux Arts Design displaying my panel.
A similar panel is created on site during the Salon, contempories and visitors watch the process. I took several painted 'backgrounds' rolled up in my case because I expected to stencil a panel a day.

However, there were so many interesting distractions such as kabuki makeup, Japanese guitar, slideshows and demonstrations from artists and vendors, a group mural, massage, delicious lunches, old friends to catch up with, new friends to meet and so much more that it took me four days to complete my panel.

Who knew watching paint dry could be so much fun!

I so enjoyed seeing all the photos from Salon and think your entry was fantastic. The red is so rich against the dark background and the designs are perfect!

Helan,
I love your panel from Salon! You did a great job.

Thank you Karen and Theresa. When I started to replicate the panel at Salon I was talking instead of concentrating. So the new panel was not quite as it should have been but I quite like the wrong version. If I have time I will mend it now that I am home. There were too many exciting distractions at Salon to mend it there.
I hope to bring you some of the work of other participants because they were REALLY fab.

SO lovely to see you there, I had a blast--- still recovering and exhausted from laughing so much!

Yes Lynne,it was brilliant. I have had the worst cold since the day after I got home. Was floored by it but now I am recovered well enough to go through the pictures, write my thank yous and bore my family senseless with anecdotes and photographs from the experience. Will send any decent pics with you or E on them. x
