Earlier this week I was excited that I had been invited to teach two workshop classes to members of IDAL at their stencilling and decorative painting convention in Fort Worth, Texas this year. To learn about IDAL see their web site. Previously I posted information about one of the classes which was 'Stencilling for Furniture' and some of you have booked places. The other class is 'Opulent Oriental Panel'. It is based on the panel that I exhibited last year at the Decorative Painter's Salon in Tokyo. Both of these classes are totally new so I will be running two rehearsal classes in the UK before I leave in September. One class for each of the two new subjects. Stencilling for Furniture is next week..31st Aug and Oriental Panel is 7th September
The stencils for each class are supplied and are yours to keep. Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided. Both rehearsal classes are hosted at my home at The Stencil Library in Northumberland.
What is a rehearsal class? Well, they are the debut class of any new subject that we introduce they are offered at a lower than usual price because timings and results may go askew.
What can we expect from the Opulent Oriental Panel class? To gain the skills and confidence to allow you to use stencils with overlays, stencil masks and repeating patterns You can expect a small group; a maximum of six students.
What will we do at the class? Using paint and acrylic glaze we will create a simple background that mimics woven fabric. We will create backgrounds of differing colours and build the picture of a lady with a teacup. She will be framed within a floral, repeating pattern using a stencil technique that combines colours with metallic paint.
Do we get anything to take home? Yes, you will take home your panel, it will roll for ease of carrying. The workshop instructions and more than £80.00 worth of stencils are yours to keep. This will enable you to make more lovely things with them
Who is the class suitable for? Total beginners and those with previous stencilling experience should benefit from this class.
Is there accomodation nearby? Yes, We are a short train ride from the City of Newcastle Upon Tyne and the historic market towns of Hexham and Corbridge. You will find accomodation to suit various budgets and there is public transport. There is B&B accomodation in Stocksfield village too, but you will need to walk or drive from them.
Do we need to bring supplies to class? Bring a note book, tape measure and an overall/apron.
Please note The class is held in my home, there are uneven floors and stairs. The house can be cold, even in summer...wear layers. Lunch and refreshments are served during the day.
How do I book? Leave a message on this blog, or on our Twitter or Facebook page. Phone, postal and email details for The Stencil Library can be found here. The cost of the Opulent Oriental Panel class is £85.00 and must be booked in advance.
Dates for 'Opulent Oriental Panel' rehearsal class Sun 7th September 9.30-18.00.
Helen.
