Yes, sometimes I struggle for post titles and yes, this stencil is called dogtooth not houndstooth, but I am allowed a bit of artistic license. Houndstooth or dogtooth are patterns made up of a broken or abstract check in two tones. It is most commonly associated with pattern as a type of weave. But lately it has also appeared in decoration. It is a nice graphic pattern that when blown up to supersize, looks very modern and contemporary (although houndstooth as a weave pattern is actually centuries old). Whilst you can do this in traditional black and white, it looks amazing in tonal shades as here. If the tones are very close together, it really does look like a texture. What would also be fantastic is if the wall was painted in matte paint (pale or dark) and the stencilling was done in a gloss acrylic varnish. If done tonally, this is a great background for any style of decor, traditional or modern or anything in between. The stencil is LD4 Large Dogtooth and it is part of of our Lucky Dip range, which is an assortment of stencil designs that defy categorisation.
