Classical design from ancient greek and roman times was a bit special. When you think about it, it has been in use in the design world in some shape or form ever since. It is reminiscent of a sophisticated time so it is still used to lend an air of gravitas whether it is in architecture, interior design or the decorative arts. This border is from our new Classical Victorian range of stencils. It is CV8 Putney Tile Border. I am no great historian but during Victorian times, Britain was at the height of its game. The Empire was huge, the Industrial Revolution was in full flow. It is not surprising therefore that architects and decorators sought to compound that power by referencing classical design within victorian design. Classical elements of style were yet again used thoughout buildings be it public or private. To this day, if you want to lend an air of formality and sophistication to your home, a neoclassical design is good place to start. It is a more formal design and therefore will not be to everyone's taste nor would it suit everyone's homes. Sometimes, it is used in a more formal room like the dining room or rather a room you want to emphasise as formal, where it might not look good in another room of the same house.
