An alternative title to this post could be 'Taking the Ache out of Mosaic' We show you how to fake the look of mosaics with stencils.
Originally, we designed our mosaic stencil collection to enhance floors and walls. However, the smallest of the sizes is a good scale for use on furniture and looks rather splendid on fabrics too. There are three sizes available to order in the mosaic section. They are all in scale with each other so if you want a medium sized border make sure that any tiles or motifs are medium sized too. The large size has impact and is fast to stencil, the smaller sizes look more realistic. My first two pictures shows the small (or standard) size on the wall and the medium size on the floor.
A medium sized mosaic tile and border stencil was used to decorate these concrete pavers in the yard behind our office.
Most of the mosaic stencils have layers; one for each colour so the application of the paint is simple and precise; you will not have to worry about colour separation because we have done that for you. You just need to decide which colours you would like to use. This fabulous collection of stencils is simple to use and looks great.
A mid-tone background is best to stencil onto when using the mosaic stencil collection, both grey and brown are suitable colours because they offer a realistic grout effect when combined with light or dark colours.
The mosaic collection of stencils from The Stencil Library can be accessed from our older, larger website or from our newer, smaller website. If you type the word mosaic into the site search on either of our sites you will find even more mosaic borders that are not part of this collection.
Recently, USA customer JCM Studio of Decorative Arts in Westminster, Maryland used our mosaic stencils to decorate the entry ramp area to the workshop.
